Château d'Oupia, Minervois - Les Barons 2019
(€18.00 L)
“Wonderful blend of syrah, carignan and grenache with a reddish-black colour. (…) flawless structure with a light wood aroma (…) garrigue, peppermint and fresh, acidulous blackberry soften the strong tannins. With Marie-Pierre Iché’s personal touch, the baron becomes a prince.” (Guide Hachette 2017, vin remarquable)
50% Carignan, 40% Grenache noir, 10% Syrah
Winemaker and vineyard: Just a few wall sections and a tower of the old castle belonging to the lords of Oupia have survived through the ages. In 1860, Romain Iché purchased the castle, his grandson André Iché inherited it in 1970. He built the cellar and the wineries up again, making the vineyard a benchmark in the Minervois appellation. After his death in 2007, his daughter took up his lifework. At the “Concours des vignerons indépendants 2017”, the Barons 2014 carried off the golden award!
Tasting: Deep red colour, intense and expressive, spicy peppery berry aromas with light woody notes on the nose, fruity and round in the mouth with a mild finish, typical for its garrigue notes.
Service: Drink it between 15 and 17°C. It is perfect to jugged hare, but also to red meats, haunch of venison or game.
