Réserve de la Comtesse 2016
Tasting
Colour: Deep, intense garnet red.
Nose: Fine and complex. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), black cherry, floral nuances (violet), subtle spicy notes (sweet pepper, liquorice), elegant touches of cedar and graphite typical of Pauillac, discreet, harmonious oakiness.
Palate: Silky, precise attack. Refined texture with fine, coated tannins, providing structure and elegance. Ample and flavoursome mid-palate, marked by pure, juicy fruit, underpinned by controlled acidity. Long, well-balanced finish, with reminiscences of black fruit, spices and light mineral notes.
Review
- Wine Advocate: 92/100
- Vinous (Neal Martin): 92/100
- James Suckling: 94/100
Suggested pairings
Excellent with grilled or roasted red meats (rib of beef, entrecote, duck breast), roast lamb (loin, leg) or stews (tajine with sweet spices, spring navarin). Also ideal with roast poultry (guinea fowl, cherry duck) and game birds (pheasant, partridge). An excellent accompaniment to richly flavoured stews (daube provençale, bœuf bourguignon) and mature hard cheeses (Comté vieux, vieux Cantal) or slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne).
