Château Rol Valentin 2016, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - Parker 92
(€83.33 L)
A full-bodied wine with earthy aromas and muscular fruit. Grainy texture, fresh and long finish, rich in berries.
Winemaker and Vineyard: The 7.3 hectares of vineyards at Château Rol Valentin are planted with 78% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Malbec, with vines averaging 40 years of age. Soil work is done in four ways (mounding, four traditional plowings, pruning in both single and double Guyot, disbudding, suckering, pruning adapted to the vigor of the vine, cluster selection (thinning) from flowering to mid-veraison, complex leaf removal from June (fruit set) until August 10 to 15 (veraison).
Tasting: The 2016 Rol Valentin has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and offers up straight-laced, serious notions of fragrant earth, cigar box and sautéed herbs over a core of warm plums, mulberries and blueberry preserves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is completely packed with muscular fruit, with a firm, grainy texture and loads of freshness, finishing long and berry laced. (robertparker.com, 29.03.2019)
Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany a wild boar leg roast.
