Domaine Madeloc - Banyuls Blanc ‘Asphodèles’ 2018
Origin: Banyuls-sur-Mer, Roussillon, France
Appellation: AOP Banyuls Blanc
Grape varieties: Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc mainly
Origin and background
Domaine Madeloc, owned by the Parcé family, is renowned for its meticulous work on the old schist terroirs of Banyuls. The ‘Asphodèles’ cuvée offers a bright, delicate vision of white Banyuls, made by preserving the varietal purity and the balance between sugar and freshness, in a style that is less oxidative than a traditional Banyuls.
Tasting
Colour: Bright pale gold with silver highlights.
Nose: Fine and expressive. Aromas of dried apricot, white peach, candied orange peel, with subtle floral touches (hawthorn, orange blossom) and a hint of honey.
Palate: Smooth and harmonious. Velvety attack, lovely freshness balancing out the sweet richness. Flavours of ripe yellow fruit, citrus peel and a hint of salt and minerality on the finish, offering great digestibility and precision.
Suggested pairings
Perfect as a refined aperitif, with foie gras toast or blue-veined cheeses. Excellent with low-sugar fruity desserts: apricot tart, citrus salad, lemon-basil sorbet. Can also be served with poultry in a light cream sauce or lightly spiced Asian dishes, such as a mild curry or prawn egg rolls.
