Terroir: The grapes originate from selected parcels within the Coteaux du Giennois appellation, where the vines were planted around 15 years ago under sustainable management. The soil is characterized by a fine, namesake layer of flint-rich clay, widely known as silex. This stony and mineral composition provides the wine with its smoky, profound character.
Winemaker and vineyard: Stemming from a traditional winemaking family, Benoît Chauveau took over a portion of his parents' vineyards in 1995, followed by his grandparents' vines in 1997. He has been managing the estate alongside his wife Emmanuelle since the year 2000, and constructed a new, precise cellar facility in 2012. The family domain spans a total of 17 hectares, with 3 hectares dedicated to the Coteaux du Giennois appellation, and has been supported by daughter Lise since 2021.
Manufacturing: Following the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed using a modern pneumatic press. Cold settling is conducted at a stable temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The alcoholic fermentation is strictly temperature-controlled at a maximum of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in stainless steel tanks to fully preserve the delicate primary aromas of the grape. Subsequently, the wine is aged on its fine lees for 4 to 8 months, adding texture and structure.
Tasting: The wine presents itself in the glass with a brilliant pale gold color tinged with subtle green reflections. The racy and powerful nose reveals a bouquet combining ripe grapefruit, fresh pineapple, and delicate hints of blackcurrant bud. On the palate, it appears beautifully sleek, precise, and sophisticated with a vibrant intensity. The fine lees maturation contributes subtle nuances of brioche, while the long finish is carried by a striking, cool minerality reminiscent of wet flint.
Serving recommendation & aging potential: This dry white wine shows its optimal profile when served at a temperature of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. It serves as an excellent pairing for fresh seafood, grilled fish, shellfish, and delicate fish served in rich sauces. The 2022 vintage is highly expressive in its youth, yet it offers the potential to cellar for 3 to 5 years to develop further complexity.
Awards & environmental certifications: Championing sustainable agriculture, the estate achieved the high environmental value Haute Valeur Environnementale certification in 2020. This was followed by the first certified Terra Vitis harvest in 2021. Furthermore, this specific vintage was honored at the Decanter World Wine Awards, receiving a Silver Medal alongside a score of 91 points.
