Château La Tour Blanche 2016

Origin and background

The 2016 Sauternes vintage enjoyed a long, regular growing season, with ideal conditions for the development of botrytis cinerea (noble rot) thanks to morning mists followed by sunny afternoons. Château La Tour Blanche, famous for its balanced, complex sweet wines, has produced a harmonious, rich wine of great aromatic purity.

Tasting

Colour: Deep gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Very expressive and refined. Aromas of candied apricot, orange marmalade, honey, exotic fruit (pineapple, mango), white flowers and subtle spicy notes (vanilla, cinnamon).

Palate: Unctuous, enveloping attack. Generous sweetness balanced by lively, elegant acidity. Dense and complex mid-palate, marked by fruity and honeyed flavours. Long, fresh finish, with superb aromatic persistence.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 94/100

- Vinous: 93/100

- James Suckling: 94/100

Suggested pairings

Ideal with semi-cooked or pan-fried foie gras, blue-veined cheeses (Roquefort, Stilton), roast poultry or lightly sweetened stuffed poultry (capon with dried fruit). It also enhances fruity desserts (tarte Tatin, mango-passion millefeuille) and preparations based on almonds or honey. It can also be served on its own as a meditation wine.
