Domaine Fernand Engel
Origin
Domaine Fernand Engel, located in Wintzenheim, is renowned for its wines from granite and limestone terroirs, offering fine, deep expressions of Alsace grape varieties. This cuvée of Riesling Vendanges Tardives perfectly reflects the aromatic richness and balance of the vintage.
Tasting
Colour: Intense golden yellow with amber highlights.
Nose: Very aromatic and complex. Notes of ripe, candied fruit (apricot, peach, quince), candied citrus fruit, honey, white flowers, spicy nuances (ginger, saffron) and minerality.
Palate: Rich, velvety attack. Unctuous texture, balanced by fresh, lively acidity that brings tension and balance to the natural sweetness. Full-bodied, luscious and persistent mid-palate, with a long finish marked by notes of candied fruit, honey and a slight mineral salinity.
Review
- Wine Advocate: 93/100
- Vinous: 92/100
- Jancis Robinson: 17/20
Suggested pairings
Perfect with dried or candied fruit-based desserts (apricot tart, mirabelle plum clafoutis), blue-veined cheeses (Roquefort, Bleu d'Auvergne), as well as certain spicy or Asian dishes (mild curry, spicy-sweet Thai cuisine). It also goes very well with foie gras and poultry in a slightly sweet sauce.
