Clos La Coutale, Cahors 2021
(€13.20 L)
Full-bodied, present tannins, red berries, liquorice; with duck.
Winemaker and winery: With an experience accumulated by six generations, the Bernède family now runs two wineries in the Cahors appellation: Clos La Coutale and Domaine du Caillou. Thanks to the Malbec grape variety, the wines of La Coutale reflect the identity of Cahors. The wines are full of character, aromatic, delicately spicy and fruity.
Tasting notes: Intense ruby red colour with violet glints on red fruit scents with gentle wood and spice aromas on the nose. The wine is full-bodied with fine tannins present on the palate where notes of red berries and liquorice are also detected. Nice finish. The Malbec grape variety gives the wine a very marked structure, rich and wild tannins when young. The wine, which is rounded by the Merlot, should be enjoyed at the earliest three years after its production. Then it has this wild character, is fruity and fleshy. With age it becomes smoother and develops berry aromas and spice.
Service: Ideal with red meat, duck, sharp cheeses and regional cuisine from the southwest of France.
