Origin and background
Château Sociando-Mallet sits on a magnificent terroir of gravel on clay overlooking the Gironde estuary, north of Saint-Estèphe. It is known for its powerful, straightforward style, with remarkable ageing potential. The 2017 vintage, despite a spring frost that affected some Médoc plots, has produced a classic, beautifully fresh wine, thanks to well-preserved plots and rigorous plot selection.
Tasting
Colour: Deep red with intense ruby highlights.
Nose: Pure and expressive. Dominated by notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and violet, with hints of graphite, cedar, light tobacco and a hint of spice.
Palate: Clean, full attack. Firm but silky, well-integrated tannins underpin a precise aromatic framework of black fruits and lightly smoky notes. Good acid tension, giving freshness and length to the straightforward, persistent finish.

Suggested pairings
Ideal with shoulder of lamb confit with rosemary, grilled entrecôte with vine shoots, or duck with cherries. It also goes very well with spring veal navarin or mature, pressed cheeses such as cantal vieux or salers tradition.
