Clos Marsalette 2016

Origin and background

An exceptional vintage in Bordeaux, Clos Marsalette 2016 benefits from the year's ideal climatic conditions: an even flowering, a hot, dry summer and a cool autumn, all of which favoured slow, complete ripening. Situated on deep gravelly soils typical of Pessac-Léognan, this estate vinifies with precision to bring out the purity of the fruit and the elegance of the terroir.

Tasting

Colour: Intense garnet red with purple highlights.

Nose: Expressive and harmonious. Aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruit (cherry), sweet spices (pepper, nutmeg), floral notes and well blended woody notes (vanilla, light tobacco).

Palate: Supple, fruity attack. Silky texture, fine, coated tannins. Lovely freshness on the mid-palate, with a balance between density and liveliness. Lingering finish with woody, slightly smoky accents.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 91/100

- Vinous: 90/100

- James Suckling: 93/100

Suggested pairings

Ideal with tender red meats (ribeye steak, beef steak), roast poultry or poultry in sauce (guinea fowl, duck breast), as well as dishes with preserved vegetables or sautéed mushrooms. It also goes well with ripened hard cheeses (Tomme de Savoie, Ossau-Iraty) or slightly creamy cheeses (ripened Brillat-Savarin).
