Château Figeac 2017, Saint-Émilion 1° Grand Cru Classé - Parker 95
(€352.00 L)
An incomparable personality, with a complex bouquet full of charm.
Winemaker and Vineyard: Château-Figeac's unique character is due to the combination of three hills of Günzian gravel with clay subsoils, several microclimates, and a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. This original blend, dominated by 2/3 Cabernets, gives the wine structure, finesse, freshness, and smoothness. Since the beginning of this century, Château-Figeac's wine has been accessible in its early years with a more caressing touch on the palate, without losing its incomparable verticality over time. Its longevity over several decades is exceptional, with an inimitable and complex bouquet that reveals itself over time.
Tasting: Production was down by half this year—only producing 55,000 bottles. Made from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Figeac gives up expressive notes of black cherries, plum preserves, black raspberries and kirsch, giving way to hints of dried leaves, cinnamon toast and warm cassis plus a waft of lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate has wonderful vibrancy with a refreshing line cutting through the crunchy black fruits and a firm, finely grained frame, finishing long and spicy. robertparker.com (03.16.2020)
Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany venison ribs with génépi.
