Fruity, licorice, leather, silky tannins; pairs well with trout, game, and cheese.
Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the nine great wines of the "Côte des Grands Crus" vineyard, located beside the Lavaux gorge. It lies on Bajocian marl outcrops, covered by a thin layer of hillside scree and excellent silt. The dark, limestone-rich soils have formed on this colluvium.
Producer: The Tortochot estate has been connected to the Tortochot family for four generations. It was Paul Tortochot who, in the 19th century, developed the estate—then of modest size—in Gevrey-Chambertin. To this day, it remains in the hands of the Tortochot family. Chantal now manages the estate with the passion for wine and nature passed down from her parents and grandparents, as well as the international experience she gained while working for an American oil company.
Terroir: Gevrey-Chambertin boasts a rare and unique terroir, shaped by the "alluvial fan" that originates from a valley directly west of Gevrey, known as La Combe de Lavaux. This glacier melted millions of years ago, distributing rich topsoil and subsoil layers across the area that now forms the village, extending to the plains beyond. It is no surprise that nine of Burgundy’s 33 Grand Crus come from this village, including the renowned Chambertin, along with 26 Premier Crus!
Tasting Notes: Aromas of red fruits, licorice, and leather. The Mazis-Chambertin has a bold character—powerful with great length, well-structured yet with silky tannins. Velvety and refined on the finish.
Aging Potential: 7–10 years
