Fabulous berry-fruit aromas, licorice, leather, great structure; pairs well with goose and duck breast.
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the nine great wines of the "Côte des Grands Crus" vineyard, located alongside the Lavaux ravine. It lies on outcrops of Bajocian marl, covered by a thin layer of hillside scree and excellent silt. The dark, limestone-rich soils have formed on this colluvium.
Producer: The Tortochot estate has been closely linked to the Tortochot family for four generations. It was Paul Tortochot who, in the 19th century, expanded what was then a modest estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, it remains in the hands of the Tortochot family. Chantal now leads the winery with the passion for wine and nature passed down from her parents and grandparents, combined with international experience she gained while working for an American oil company.
Terroir: Gevrey-Chambertin boasts a rare and unique terroir, shaped by the "alluvial fan" from a valley located just west of Gevrey, known as "La Combe de Lavaux." This glacier melted millions of years ago, spreading rich upper and lower soil layers over the area that now forms the village and extends into the surrounding plains. It is no surprise that nine of Burgundy’s 33 Grand Crus originate from this village, including the famous Chambertin, along with 26 Premier Crus!
Tasting Notes: A wine with a so-called feminine character, rich in finesse and elegance. Palate Expression: Red fruit, silky tannins. Charming, with fabulous hints of berry fruit, licorice, and leather aroma.
Aging Potential: 7-10 years.
