Château Labégorce 2016

Origin and background

The 2016 Margaux vintage benefited from an exceptionally favourable climate, with a hot, dry summer and a long autumn, enabling the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. Château Labégorce, situated on a gravelly terroir typical of the appellation, produces a wine that combines elegance, structure and finesse, perfectly illustrating the potential of the vintage.

Tasting

Colour: Deep red with violet highlights.

Nose: Intense and elegant. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruit (raspberry, black cherry), floral notes (violet), sweet spices (pepper, liquorice) and subtle woody touches (vanilla, cedar).

Palate: Supple, velvety attack. Fine tannic structure, but very present, giving it good staying power. Well-balanced and precise mid-palate, with pure fruit and pleasant freshness. Long, harmonious finish, marked by spicy, slightly woody notes.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 91/100

- Vinous: 90/100

- James Suckling: 92/100

Suggested pairings

Goes very well with grilled or roasted red meats (rib steak, flank steak, fillet of beef), roast or braised lamb, roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck) and savoury stews. Also ideal for mature hard cheeses (Comté, Parmesan) and slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert).
