Château Le Fagé - Monbazillac Grande Réserve 2015
Château Le Fagé is located in the heart of the Monbazillac appellation, on the sunny hillsides overlooking the Dordogne valley. This clay-limestone terroir, combined with a microclimate that is ideal for the development of noble rot (botrytis cinerea), makes it possible to produce great, rich and complex sweet wines.
The 2015 vintage, which was particularly favourable to over-ripening of the grapes, produced an exceptional cuvée. The grapes are harvested by hand, in successive selections, in order to select only the berries that have been concentrated by botrytis. After a gentle pressing, the must ferments slowly, then the wine is matured for 18 months in barrels, partially renewed, to develop its aromatic complexity.
Wine profile
A deep gold colour with amber highlights, the sign of a mature, concentrated wine.
The nose is intense, marked by candied fruit aromas such as apricot and fig, enhanced by notes of honey, sweet spices and a touch of liquorice.
On the palate, the attack is soft and generous, carried by a fine body. The balance between sugar and acidity is well controlled, resulting in a long, fresh and elegant finish.
Food and wine pairing
Served chilled, between 6 and 8°C, this Monbazillac goes wonderfully well with foie gras, poultry in a cream sauce, a platter of blue-veined cheeses or a fruity or marzipan-based dessert.
