La Chapelle d'Ausone 2018, Saint Emilion Grand Cru - Parker 93-95
The 2018 Chapelle d'Ausone is made of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot was harvested on September 25 and 27, the Cabernet Franc on October 3, 8 and 9, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on October 9. Deep purple-black in color, it is a little reticent to begin, unfurling slowly to reveal notes of Black Forest cake, mincemeat pie, candied violets and Chinese five spice plus waves of charcuterie, black olives, mossy bark and cast iron pan. Full-bodied with a fantastic line of freshness lifting the dense layers, it has a very plush, silt-like texture and a very long, mineral-laced finish. robertparker.com

Dense and deep black robe with ruby hues.
The nose is complex with notes of mocha, zan, blackcurrant, raspberry, and violet
The palate: blackcurrant, morello, redcurrant, and cocoa give to the palate a rich touch of mellowness. Long, ample and homogeneous wine. The soft tannins are neat and straight on a lingering finish.
Splendid wine. Classic of Bordeaux, elegant and noble.
The wine is a deep, dazzling purple. Initially rather closed, the nose opens with airing to reveal elegant fresh fruit, blackcurrant bud and eucalyptus aromas. A fresh, clean attack leads into a full, powerful and silky mid-palate, building to an incredibly long finish on notes of brioche and liquorice. An intense and stylish vintage to come back to in a few years’ time.
“A wine close to perfection” ; “Charmail is definitely one of the Haut Medoc stars” ; “One of the most consistent Crus Bourgeois in the last 10-15 years”
