Château Kirwan 2016
Origin and background
The 2016 vintage at Margaux was characterised by a hot, dry summer, followed by a cool, long autumn, ideal conditions for the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. Château Kirwan, planted on gravelly terroir typical of the appellation, produces a wine that combines elegance, freshness and aromatic complexity, true to the refined style of the estate.
Tasting
Colour: Deep garnet red with purple highlights.
Nose: Complex and refined. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruit (raspberry), floral notes (violet), sweet spices (pepper, liquorice) and subtle woody notes (cedar, vanilla).
Palate: Supple, velvety attack. Fine, silky tannins, well integrated into a balanced structure. Elegant, dense mid-palate with pure fruit and refreshing acidity. Long, harmonious finish, marked by delicate spicy and woody notes.
Review

Suggested pairings
Ideal with grilled or roasted red meats (fillet of beef, entrecote), roast or braised lamb, roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck), as well as savoury stews. It also goes well with hard ripened cheeses (Comté, Parmesan) and slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert).
