Clos La Coutale, Cahors - Grand Coutale 2018
(€29.20 L)
Wood, melted tannins, long finish; with sheep cheese.
Winemaker and winery: With an experience accumulated by six generations, the Bernède family now runs two wineries in the Cahors appellation: Clos La Coutale and Domaine du Caillou. Thanks to the Malbec grape variety, the wines of La Coutale reflect the identity of Cahors. The wines are full of character, aromatic, delicately spicy and fruity. The "Grand Coutale" is a real, very typical Cahors with 100% Malbec - the king grape in Cahors. Fruity, ripe aromas combine with light impressions of roasted coffee and vanilla. More Cahors is not possible!
Tasting notes: The colour of the wine is garnet red with a very dark hue. The aromas range from vanilla, very ripe black fruits, liquorice to a hint of roasted coffee. The Grand Coutale is broad, has a good structure with rich, fine and well-developed tannins. Strong but velvety and persistent finish. The wine is rich, balanced and stands out for its concentration and silky tannins.
Service: Ideal with Southwest French cuisine, red meat, duck and strong cheeses.
