Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2009, Saint-Julien - MAGNUM
(€51.94 L)
The Fiefs de Lagrange is characterized by round tannins, aromas of red and black fruits on a youth and still shows good potential.
Winemaker and Vineyard: Located on two Günzian gravel mounds, one of which is the highest point of the appellation, the Château Lagrange estate covers 118 hectares in one piece. 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 5% Petit-Verdot make up our grape variety, spread over more than 100 individual plots. Our vines are on average 40 years old and the oldest dates back to 1952. 11 hectares are also dedicated to the production of white wine, with 80% Sauvignon blanc, 10% Sauvignon gris and 10% Sémillon. 17 different soils and subsoils have been identified, allowing the grape varieties and rootstocks to be adapted to the terroirs, and pushing the approach of a tailor-made viticulture, plot by plot, in order to best express its character.
Tasting: Tasted at the chateau one week prior to bottling, this is very pure and refined on the nose with blackberry, cold stone and a touch of wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, good grip with a voluminous finish. The Cabernet is showing very well here and it constitutes a very capable Second wine. Tasted April 2011. Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany eggs meurette.
