Château Palmer 2016
Origin and background
The 2016 vintage, characterised by a hot, dry summer followed by a cool, sunny autumn, enabled the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. Château Palmer, situated on an exceptional gravelly terroir in the Margaux appellation, offers a wine of remarkable elegance and complexity, combining power and finesse, the signature of this grand cru.
Tasting
Colour: Deep, intense red with purple highlights.
Nose: Complex and seductive. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruit (cherry), spices (pepper, liquorice), floral notes (violet) and fine woody nuances (cedar, vanilla).
Palate: Full, velvety attack. Silky, well-structured tannins. Dense, well-balanced mid-palate, marked by concentrated fruit and fresh acidity. Long, harmonious, lingering finish with spicy, slightly smoky notes.
Scores :
- Wine Advocate: 97/100
- Vinous: 96/100
- James Suckling: 97/100
Suggested pairings
Pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats (fillet of beef, entrecote), roast lamb or leg of lamb, noble poultry (guinea fowl, duck) and rich dishes in sauce (daube, civet). It also goes well with mature hard cheeses (Comté, Parmesan) or blue-veined cheeses.
