Château Meyney 2016

Origin and background

The 2016 vintage in Saint-Estèphe benefited from exceptional weather conditions: a hot, dry summer followed by a longer, cooler autumn, enabling complete, balanced ripening. Château Meyney, built on gravelly and clay-limestone soils, has produced a powerful, structured wine that is both classic and refined, perfectly representative of the appellation's style.

Tasting

Colour: Deep red with dark garnet highlights.

Nose: Intense and complex. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruit (cherry), spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), floral touches (violet) and elegant woody notes (cedar, vanilla, light tobacco).

Palate: Full, velvety attack. Powerful yet perfectly coated tannins, providing structure and depth. Dense mid-palate, marked by pure fruit and balanced acidity. Long, harmonious finish, with spicy, slightly smoky accents.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 93/100

- Vinous: 92/100

- James Suckling: 94/100

Suggested pairings

An excellent accompaniment to grilled or roasted red meats (rib of beef, filet mignon), roast or braised lamb (saddle of lamb, leg of lamb), roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck), as well as rich stews (daube, bourguignon). It also goes very well with mature hard cheeses (Comté, Manchego) or slightly blue-veined cheeses.
