Château Rauzan-Ségla 2016
Origin and background
The 2016 vintage is renowned for its exceptional quality in Bordeaux, with a hot, dry summer followed by a long, cool autumn, favouring optimal ripening. Château Rauzan-Ségla, situated on an exceptional gravelly terroir, produces a wine combining power and elegance, a precise reflection of its soil and climate.
Tasting
Colour: Deep garnet red with purple highlights.
Nose: Complex and refined. Aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), floral notes (violet), sweet spices (pepper, liquorice), fine woody nuances (cedar, vanilla) and mineral touches.
Palate: Full, silky attack. Fine, well-structured, velvety tannins. Well-balanced, dense mid-palate, with pure fruit and well-controlled freshness. Long, harmonious finish, with spicy, mineral notes.
Review
- Wine Advocate: 95/100
- Vinous (Neal Martin): 94/100
- James Suckling: 95/100
Suggested pairings
Pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats (rib of beef, fillet of beef, entrecôte), roast or braised lamb, noble poultry (guinea fowl, duck) and rich stews (daube, boeuf bourguignon). It also goes very well with mature hard cheeses (Comté, Parmesan) and slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne).
