Château d'Aiguilhe 2020, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux - Parker 92
(€38.66 L)
A fruity, greedy wine, structured and nicely spiced.
Winemaker and Vineyard: Château d'Aiguilhe is a beautiful 140-hectare property, with 90 hectares dedicated to vines. Located on the border of the Saint-Emilion and Castillon regions, the vineyard is on a high plateau and benefits from excellent southern exposure. The soil is primarily clay-limestone, which aids natural drainage and allows the vines to root deeply into the limestone subsoil. The property is currently held by Stephan von Neipperg, who took over the property in 1998 and has since made significant investments to improve both the vineyard and the winemaking facilities.
Tasting: Aromas of cassis, dark berries and cherries mingle with subtle hints of incense and spices in an inviting bouquet to introduce the 2020 d'Aiguilhe, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine with powdery tannins and the lively acids that are typical of this later-ripening, limestone-rich sector. Always a notable value, this age-worthy cuvée has turned out very well this year. (robertparker.com, 06.04.2023)
Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany chicken skewers in coconut milk.
