Château Croizet-Bages 2016
Tasting
Colour: Deep garnet-red with purple highlights.
Nose: Clean and expressive. Black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), black cherry, spicy notes (black pepper, liquorice), hints of smoke and light oak (vanilla, cedar).
Palate: Supple, straightforward attack. Strong but well-coated tannic structure, providing good staying power. Well-balanced mid-palate, revealing ripe, straightforward fruit with appreciable freshness. Lingering finish, with hints of spice and minerality.
Review
- Wine Advocate: 90/100
- Vinous (Neal Martin): 90/100
- James Suckling: 92/100
Suggested pairings
Ideal with grilled or roasted red meats (rib steak, rib of beef, duck breast), roast or braised lamb (leg of lamb, mouse confit), and roast or stuffed poultry (guinea fowl, duck with sweet spices). Also perfect for richly flavoured stews (boeuf bourguignon, daube provençale) and game birds (pheasant, partridge). It also goes very well with mature hard cheeses (Comté vieux, Parmesan, vieux Cantal) or slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne).
