Domaine de Marcoux - Côtes du Rhône 2016

Appellation: Côtes du Rhône (Orange, Vaucluse), from alluvial clay-limestone terroirs, cultivated under certified organic farming since 1991

Vintage: 2016

Ownership: Family estate based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, run according to biodynamic principles by Sophie and Catherine Armenier; the Côtes du Rhône cuvée shares the same technical rigour as the top-of-the-range vineyards

Tasting

Colour : Deep cherry red with purplish tints, luminous and intense

Nose: Aromatic and complex, combining candied red fruit (strawberry, cherry), sweet spices, dried flowers and slightly earthy or undergrowth notes

Palate: Medium-bodied, elegant and balanced; supple, ripe tannins, with flavours of red fruit and spices, good freshness and aromatic persistence

Scores & expert comments

- Jeb Dunnuck: 91 pts - Bouquet of cherry, strawberry, spices and dried flowers; elegant wine, medium-bodied, seamless and delicious.

- K&L Buyer: Mentioned in 2018 that this wine ‘ages beautifully but is also out of the gate charming’, highlighting its depth and balance despite its CDR classification

Food & wine pairing

- Perfect with roast lamb, grilled steak, simmered dishes (civet, tajine) or spicy poultry.

- Excellent with Mediterranean cuisine - grilled vegetables, ratatouille, tagines.
