Château Nenin 2015, Pomerol - MAGNUM - Parker 92-94
(€129.34 L)
The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin. Very well-balanced, this Nenin seems more sophisticated than in recent years.
Winemaker and Vineyard: The vineyard of Château Nénin spreads almost seamlessly, with the exception of a single plot. However, the Grand Vin is produced only from the best plots, representing 8 hectares of the finest clay-gravel soils located on the Pomerol plateau. The adjoining plots, situated below, are dedicated to the production of the second wine, Fugue de Nénin. As such, its terroir encompasses the full diversity of soils that characterize Pomerol. It mainly consists of Oligocene deposits topped by alluvial gravel formations from the Dordogne; comprising of clay and siliceous gravels, quartz, granite, iron scum, and basalt pebbles. The vines of Château Nénin are planted on the Pomerol plateau.
Tasting: The 2015 Nenin is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc, harvested at 37 hl/ha between September 17 and October 5 over nine picking days. The alcohol level is 14.3%. Matured in 35% new oak barrels, it presents a precise and elegant bouquet. This Nenin appears more nuanced compared to recent vintages, with the Merlot being more expressive than the Cabernet Franc at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin. Very well-balanced, this Nenin seems more sophisticated than in recent years, due to Jean-Hubert Delon's decision to declassify certain plots into the second wine. There's an appealing sappiness towards the finish that lingers pleasantly in the mouth. It would be nice to see the Cabernet Franc express itself more by the time this 2015 is bottled, but this Nenin has excellent potential. One to watch. robertparker.com (04.28.2016)
