Clos du Marquis 2005, Saint Julien, Château Léoville Las Cases - Parker 91
(€109.33 L)
A tasty, elegant wine, reflecting the brilliance of the great wines of 2005.
Winemaker and Vineyard: Le Clos du Marquis, created in 1902, finds its origin in the Petit Clos adjoining the Château de Léoville, home of the Marquis de Las Cases. Le Clos du Marquis comes from the great terroirs of the Saint-Julien Appellation, which were not systematically part of the cadastre of the old Domaine de Léoville. These terroirs are located slightly further west and are surrounded by prestigious Classified Growths, including Second Growths from the Saint-Julien and Pauillac appellations: Léoville Poyferré, Léoville Barton, Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande... Le Clos du Marquis thus perfectly expresses the typicity of Saint-Julien: structure, complexity, harmony, distinction and aging potential.
Tasting: "The superb second wine, the 2005 Clos du Marquis, reflects the utter brilliance of the 2005 grand vin. It boasts an inky/ruby/purple color along with a sweet perfume of lead pencil, ripe cherries and black currants, and hints of earth and vanillin. Dense, chewy, fleshy, and full-bodied, this beauty will be drinkable in 3-4 years, and should keep for 15-20." robertparker.com (30.04.2008)
Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C), to accompany poultry
