Château Pichon Baron 2014

Origin and background

The 2014 vintage was marked by a cooler, wetter climate than in previous years, leading to more accessible, fresh and elegant wines. Château Pichon Baron was able to take advantage of these conditions to produce a well-structured wine of remarkable finesse, with a delicate aromatic profile true to its gravelly terroir.

Tasting

Colour: Deep ruby red with purple highlights.

Nose: Elegant and fine. Aromas of fresh red and black fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), floral notes (violet), sweet spices, lightly woody touches (vanilla, cedar).

Palate: Supple, fresh attack. Fine, silky tannins, balanced structure. Harmonious mid-palate, revealing elegant fruit and refreshing acidity. Clean, persistent finish, with notes of red fruit and light spices.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 91/100

- Vinous (Neal Martin): 90/100

- James Suckling: 91/100

Suggested pairings

Perfect with grilled or roasted red meats (fillet of beef, rib steak), roast lamb, roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck) and light stews. Also goes well with soft or semi-hard ripened cheeses (Saint-Nectaire, young Cantal).
