Château Le Fagé, Monbazillac - Grande Réserve 2019
Lively attack, citrus fruit, candied apricot; with foie gras.
Winemaker and vinery: Heir to 8 generations of winemakers, Benoȋt Gérardin has been running this great estate on the northern slope of Monbazillac since 2012. Château le Fagé is known for producing noble and sweet wines of superior quality, but its range also includes excellent red and rosé wines! Château le Fagé has a tradition of over 250 years. However, each generation adds its own characteristic to the wine. Respect for the past and the soil as well as quality are the main concerns of the Gérardin family.
Tasting: The amber colour is the result of severe selective selection, following a complete botrytisation. The palate is ample, complex and rich. Notes of liquorice and dried fruit stand out. The finish is harmonious. The balance between the sugars and the vivacity is exceptional.
Service: Drink now, but will keep for 15 years. Over time the colour will become more amber and the sweet and alcoholic flavours will harmonise. It goes beautifully with a terrine of foie gras, an egg casserole with truffles. Exotic cuisine with strong spices is perfectly balanced with this great sweet wine. Serve chilled between 6 and 8°C.
