Le Guérandais - Tradition Grey Coarse Guérande Salt
Tradition Grey Coarse Guérande Salt is a sea salt harvested by hand from the salt marshes of Guérande in Brittany. It is naturally grey, unwashed, unrefined and additive-free, preserving all its richness in essential minerals and trace elements.
Traditional harvesting method
The salt is harvested every day in summer, when the mild weather combines wind and sun on the Guérande peninsula. The salt concentrates until it reaches 250 g/l, crystallising and depositing on the clay of the carnations. The salt workers use a wooden tool called a "las" to push the salt to the edge of the basin, where it drips overnight onto a round clay platform called a "ladure". The next day, the salt is transported to the "mulon", the salt works' large salt store.
