Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2016
Tasting
Colour: Deep garnet red with purple highlights.
Nose: Complex and refined. Ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry), floral notes (violet), sweet spices (black pepper, liquorice), smoky touches characteristic of the Graves terroir, cedar, light tobacco and slight graphite. Elegant, perfectly integrated oak, with hints of vanilla and toast.
Palate: Full, silky attack. Velvety, dense texture, with fine, ripe tannins providing a solid, elegant structure. Concentrated, well-balanced mid-palate, revealing pure, fresh fruit with controlled acidity. Long, harmonious finish, marked by mineral, spicy and slightly smoky notes.
Review
- Wine Advocate: 97/100

Suggested pairings
Perfect with grilled or roasted red meats (rib steak, rib of beef, fillet of beef en croûte), roast lamb (leg of lamb, rack of lamb) or simmered lamb (lamb tajine with sweet spices, candied mouse). Also ideal with roast or stuffed poultry (guinea fowl, duck with cherries), game birds (pheasant, partridge) or game birds (venison, wild boar). A perfect accompaniment to richly flavoured stews (boeuf bourguignon, daube provençale) and mature hard cheeses (Comté vieux, Parmesan, vieux Cantal) or slightly blue-veined cheeses (Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne).
