Medium-bodied palate with aromas of ripe fruit, garrigue, and peppery notes; pairs well with lamb.
A great and characterful medium-bodied wine from Northern Catalonia, beautifully fruity with notes of garrigue. It received 91 points in a tasting by Andreas Larsson.
Producer: This winery has been run by winemakers for six generations since 1864, each passionately committed to preserving the ancient agricultural heritage of this small region in northern Catalonia and to making the most of its naturally gifted terroir. In 1989, Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil founded Domaine Fontanel. In 2017, Elodie and Matthieu Collet took over the estate, with Pierre continuing to support them. Elodie worked for over 10 years in the field of sensory analysis, which contributes to the production of wines with a refined and well-developed flavor profile.
Tasting notes: Deep, glossy robe with violet reflections. Pure aromas of ripe plum, red fruits, garrigue, and tobacco leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh structure, combining fresh fruit flavors with a touch of garrigue and peppery notes, leading to a long finish.
Food pairing: Grilled or braised lamb.
