Château Meyney 2018

Appellation: Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, France

Status: Cru Bourgeois Supérieur

Ownership: Crédit Agricole Grands Crus

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Vintage: 2018

Origin and background

The 2018 vintage, marked by a hot, dry summer, enabled the grapes to reach perfect ripeness, producing powerful, concentrated wines. Château Meyney, on gravelly soils with a clay-limestone subsoil, offers a structured, generous wine that is true to the Saint-Estèphe style, combining power and refinement.

Tasting

Colour: Deep, dense red with purple highlights.

Nose: Intense and complex, revealing notes of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), sweet spices (pepper, liquorice), light tobacco and subtle woody touches (vanilla, cedar).

Palate: Full, fleshy attack. Powerful yet perfectly coated tannins. Dense and balanced mid-palate, fruity and spicy. Long, harmonious finish, marked by controlled freshness and lightly smoky, spicy notes.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 92/100

- Vinous: 91/100

- James Suckling: 93/100

Suggested pairings

Perfect with grilled or roasted red meats, dishes with rich sauces (boeuf bourguignon, wild boar stew), or characterful poultry such as roast duck. It also goes very well with mature hard or slightly blue-veined cheeses, offering a fine balance between the strength of the wine and the richness of the food.
