Winemaker and vineyard : The work of Henri Martin's life is undoubtedly the creation of Château Gloria. Indeed, it is row by row of vines, plot by plot, patiently and systematically, that Henri Martin will negotiate with his friends who are owners in the commune of Saint-Julien to acquire his various plots of classified growths very well located on Günzian gravels which, in the end, will compose the vineyard of Château Gloria. Qualified as a real feat since the vineyard of Saint-Julien represents 900 hectares, almost entirely belonging to the 11 great classified growths of the appellation. The 1970s will mark the culmination with an estate covering an area of 44 hectares, mostly made up of classified growth terroirs, some among the most prestigious. 6 hectares have since completed the vineyard. And if the Château is not a classified growth, the reason is quite simple: at the time of the classification in 1855, it did not exist. This Saint-Julien certainly bears its name well, a name of glory and success, but also of faith. That of a man of our time who knew how to "invent" a new growth and bring it to the highest fame. domaines-henri-martin.com

Tasting : An excellent effort, the 2011 Gloria continues the success this well-known property has enjoyed over the last several decades. A delicious concoction of red and black fruits, spice box, and earth as well as a silky textured, medium-bodied style emerge from this is an undeniable sleeper of the vintage. The round tannins, delicious fruit, and forward character suggest it should be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. robertparker.com (04.30.2014)

Service : Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany a rosemary ribeye steak.
