Tasting notes

Colour: Deep ruby red with violet hues.

Nose: Expressive and refined, revealing aromas of ripe red and black fruits (blackcurrant, black cherry), violet, graphite and cedar wood, complemented by delicate notes of vanilla, liquorice and mocha from oak ageing.

Palate: The 2020 Carbonnieux Rouge is round, silky and well-balanced, with fine-grained tannins, beautiful freshness and a long, elegant finish. A classic Pessac-Léognan with excellent ageing potential.

Critics

Ratings:

  • James Suckling: 95/100
  • Wine Advocate (Robert Parker): 92/100
  • Decanter: 93/100

Food pairing

Excellent with refined meat dishes such as beef fillet, rib-eye steak or veal, as well as rack of lamb, game dishes and slow-cooked meats such as Boeuf Bourguignon. Its elegant structure and fine tannins also pair beautifully with mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Cantal.
