Terroir: This micro-production comes from a miniature 1.5-hectare plot characterized by an oceanic climate and prime soils composed of fine gravel, sand, and deep clay. The vines boast an impressive average age of nearly 50 years, balancing natural yields with high aromatic complexity.
Winemaker and vineyard: Château Sacré Cœur is a prestige cuvée crafted by the Janoueix family, who have perfected Right Bank viticulture since 1867. Under the visionary direction of Jean-Philippe Janoueix and acclaimed consultant oenologist Thomas Duclos, this boutique estate sits just steps away from legendary names on the historic Pomerol plateau.
Manufacturing: The grapes are meticulously hand-harvested with double sorting conducted both in the vineyard and at the winery. Whole berries are moved entirely by gravity into vats without crushing, undergoing tailored punching down before a refined aging period in new French oak barrels.
Tasting: The wine opens with an inviting bouquet of crushed blackberries, blackcurrants, wild strawberries, and sweet spices, complemented by hints of chocolate and mint. The medium-to-full-bodied palate is broad yet remarkably precise, showcasing a chalky texture, supple tannins, and a brilliantly refreshing finish.
Serving recommendation & aging potential: Serve this exceptional red wine at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius, ideally decanting youthfully tightly-wound bottles for 30 minutes. It offers a grand cellaring potential from 2026 to 2038, pairing beautifully with roasted rack of lamb, seared duck breast with wild mushrooms, or premium beef dishes.
Awards & environmental certifications: The 2023 vintage earned top accolades, including 94 points from James Suckling and 90 points from The Wine Cellar Insider. The vineyard is managed using traditional, eco-responsible methods aligned with Bordeaux's high environmental standards.
