Château Potensac 2016

Appellation: Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Classification: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel

Ownership: Castéja family

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Vintage: 2016

Origin and background

The 2016 vintage, renowned for its balance and freshness, benefited from a hot, dry summer followed by a mild autumn. Château Potensac, located on a gravelly terroir typical of the Médoc, has produced a wine that combines elegance, structure and finesse, perfectly representative of this high-quality vintage.

Tasting

Colour: Deep ruby red with purple highlights.

Nose: Expressive and elegant. Aromas of ripe red and black fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), delicate floral and woody touches (vanilla, cedar).

Palate: Round, silky attack. Tannic structure is present but velvety. Well-balanced mid-palate, revealing pure fruit and well-integrated acidity. Long, harmonious finish with spicy, woody notes.

Review

- Wine Advocate: 90/100

- Vinous: 89/100

- James Suckling: 91/100

Suggested pairings

Pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats (rib steak, flank steak, fillet of beef), roast or stewed lamb, roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck) and stewed dishes. Also suitable for mature hard cheeses (Comté, Parmesan) and blue-veined cheeses.
