Clos Marsalette 2018

Appellation: Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France

Grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Vintage: 2018

Origin and background

Located on a terroir of fine gravel typical of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Clos Marsalette benefits from meticulous viticulture and precise vinification, underpinned by the expertise of the von Neipperg family. The 2018 vintage, which was marked by a hot, dry summer, produced excellent concentration and a brilliant expression of aromas, giving rise to a dense, structured and elegant wine.

Tasting

Colour: Deep red with garnet highlights.

Nose: Elegant and intense. Aromas of ripe red fruit (cherry, raspberry) and plum, combined with floral (violet), spicy (sweet pepper, liquorice) and slightly smoky notes.

Palate: Supple attack, silky texture and fine tannins. The whole is harmonious, sustained by a fine freshness. The wine evolves with precision, revealing a persistent finish, at once fruity, spicy and finely woody.

Scores :

- Wine Advocate: 91/100

- James Suckling: 92/100

- Vinous: 90/100

Suggested pairings

Enjoy with veal fillet with chanterelle mushrooms, roast rack of lamb, stuffed squab or grilled rib steak. It also goes well with simmered dishes such as veal blanquette or mushroom risotto, as well as semi-hard cheeses (tomme, matured Reblochon).
