Winemaker and Vineyard: Located at the foot of the hill south of the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, the terroir of Château Canon La Gaffelière consists of clay-limestone and clay-sandy soils, highly filtering, particularly receptive to heat. Due to the nature of the soils, the grape varieties present an atypical structure compared to the appellation, characterized by a perfect balance between Merlot and Cabernet. On this terroir, where maturation occurs very early, the Cabernets flourish remarkably, bringing to the opulence of the Merlot a power and aromatic complexity that form the natural elegance and finesse of Canon La Gaffelière wines.

Tasting: A blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Canon la Gaffelière offers up inviting aromas of dark berries, plums, burning embers, rose petals, incense and bay leaf. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's suave and perfumed, with melting, powdery tannins and a vibrant core of fruit. As ever, the elevated percentage of Cabernet Franc lends it a singular and compelling style. robertparker.com (04.06.2023)

Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) to accompany a veal roast in crust.
