La Dame de Montrose 2016

Appellation: Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, France

Status: Second wine of Château Montrose

Ownership: Bouygues family

Grape varieties: Merlot predominant, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot

Vintage: 2016

Tasting

Colour: Deep ruby with garnet tints.

Nose: Fine and expressive. Aromas of red and black fruit (raspberry, blackberry, black cherry), discreet floral notes, hints of sweet spices (cloves, cinnamon), with a light woodiness (fine toast, light tobacco).

Palate: Supple, elegant attack. Silky texture with good density and fine, well-coated tannins. Harmonious mid-palate, marked by pure fruit and well-integrated acidity. The finish is persistent, fresh and refined, with hints of black fruit and spice.

Critic

- Wine Advocate: 92/100

- Vinous (Neal Martin): 91/100

- James Suckling: 93/100

Suggested pairings

Pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats (rib steak, beef steak, duck breast), lamb with herbs, roast poultry (guinea fowl, duck) or poultry in sauce. It also goes well with simmered dishes (blanquette of veal, lamb tagine with prunes), hard cheeses (Tomme de brebis, Mimolette extra-vieille) and lightly blue-veined cheeses.
