Château Montrose 2012 - Saint-Estèphe 2nd Grand Cru Classé

Château Montrose, located in Saint-Estèphe on the banks of the Gironde, is famous for its powerful, structured wines with great longevity. The 2012 vintage, although produced in a difficult year, stands out for its elegance, precision and finesse, perfectly representing the estate's classic style.

Tasting notes

The wine is a deep, dazzling purple. Initially rather closed, the nose opens with airing to reveal elegant fresh fruit, blackcurrant bud and eucalyptus aromas. A fresh, clean attack leads into a full, powerful and silky mid-palate, building to an incredibly long finish on notes of brioche and liquorice. An intense and stylish vintage to come back to in a few years’ time.

Blend

57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot

Ageing

Aged for 19 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. Careful ageing gives the wine complexity, structure and ageing potential.

Cellaring potential

Can be drunk now after decanting, but will gain in complexity until 2045-2050.

Food and wine pairings

Perfect with prime rib, roast leg of lamb, game dishes or mature hard cheeses (such as an old Comté).
