Château Pédesclaux 2016

Appellation: Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Classification: Cinquième Grand Cru Classé 1855

Ownership: Descazes family

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot

Vintage: 2016

Origin and background

The 2016 vintage is one of Pauillac's great classics, with a hot, dry summer followed by a mild autumn, helping the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. Château Pédesclaux, on gravelly soils, produces a wine that is both structured and elegant, typical of the region.

Tasting

Colour: Deep red with purplish highlights.

Nose: Expressive and complex, combining ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), discreet floral touches and subtle woody nuances.

Palate: Clean, velvety attack. Tannins present but well blended. Well-balanced mid-palate, with intense fruit and controlled acidity. Long, harmonious finish, marked by spicy notes and a light minerality.
