Château Rol Valentin 2012, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - Parker 91
(€79.33 L)
A pure and ripe wine with soft, round tannins and nice texture. A successful effort from Rol Valentin that can be enjoyed now or over the next 10-15 years.
Winemaker and Vineyard: The 7.3 hectares of vineyards at Château Rol Valentin are planted with 78% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Malbec, with vines averaging 40 years of age. Soil work is done in four ways (mounding, four traditional plowings, pruning in both single and double Guyot, disbudding, suckering, pruning adapted to the vigor of the vine, cluster selection (thinning) from flowering to mid-veraison, complex leaf removal from June (fruit set) until August 10 to 15 (veraison).
Tasting: Made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with a saturated ruby/purple color and dense black cherry and plum-like fruit pushing ripeness to the limit, on the palate the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure, ripe and nicely textured, with soft, round tannins. This is a very successful effort from Rol Valentin that can be approached early on or drunk over the following 10-15 years. (robertparker.com, 30.04.2015)
Service: Serve at room temperature (16-18°C) with duck à l'orange.
